How do I become stronger?

I’m not as strong as I would like to be. I’m ready to become stronger than I have ever imagined and feel I am ready to do what is necessary to achieve this goal. I’m not 100% certain how I should go about getting stronger, but it’s time to take charge and get to work. How do I become stronger?

Getting stronger has two ingredients. Hard work, and recovery. Obviously, if you want to become stronger you have to work hard (at the gym?) with some form of resistance whether it is with weights, or some other force that creates resistance. The other ingredient to becoming stronger is the recovery ingredient. It is a combination of protein intake, and the body’s recovery time in between workouts.

When you stress the muscles in the body, you are stripping them of chemical chains of amino acids. When you do this, you must keep a healthy protein intake in order to help rebuild and repair the damage done through stress on the muscles. You also have to take time for your muscles to repair themselves and adapt to the stress put on them. You do not become stronger while performing the exercise. Strength gains are made while you rest (sleep), once again, not while you hammer on your body in the gym. While you are resting, your body says “if he or she is going to continue to do this, I must rebuild, repair, and adapt in order to keep up with this training”.
