How do I gain weight?

I have always been small and found it difficult to gain weight. When I compare my body to others, I find that I am not as big as everyone else. I don’t feel that I am at the right weight and would like to gain a few pounds while increasing in size. I have sat around long enough and feel that there is nothing I can do to make the weight gains I desire. How do I gain weight?

Most people try to gain weight because they feel they are light. In reality, they are trying to gain more muscle mass which in return adds in weight. Very rare will someone want to gain “fat” weight.

The key ingredient in gaining weight is a high intake of protein along with a good strength training program. As stress through resistance or weight training increases, so does the demand for protein. Otherwise the muscle has no fuel for growth. As the work loads increase, so does the demand for protein. Through a combination of proper strength training and adequate protein intake, the muscles ability to increase in size is greater, thus an increase in weight.
